Keeley Hawes and Freddie Highmore lead a grounded spy thriller that’s finished filming. This could be Prime Video’s next sleeper hit.

With past roles in thrillers and dramas under their belts, Hawes and Highmore return to familiar territory, this time as mother and son in a high-stakes survival story. The upcoming six-part series has finished filming and is now in post-production, quietly positioning itself as one of the more unconventional titles on Prime Video's 2025 slate. There's no trailer yet, but the project is very real and very intriguing.
Filmed entirely in Greece, the series centers on Julie, a retired assassin living off the radar on a remote island. Her peace is interrupted when her estranged son Edward shows up, not just for answers about his past, but unknowingly dragging her back into a violent one.
The moment Julie and Edward finally start talking, danger closes in, and they're forced to go on the run, together. It's a story that blends the psychological tension of an overdue family confrontation with the kind of globe-trotting danger we're more used to seeing in sleek spy thrillers.
If the premise sounds a bit like The Americans meets The Night Manager, it's because the team behind it has a reputation for twisty, emotionally grounded drama. The series was created by Jack and Harry Williams (known for The Missing) and directed by Lisa Mulcahy and Daniel Nettheim, both of whom have handled suspense and character-driven stories with ease. The rest of the cast includes Shalom Brune-Franklin, Richard Dormer, and a strong international production team.

While Prime Video hasn't shared an official release date, the series is listed for 2025 by both its production company, Two Brothers Pictures, and international distributor All3Media. With filming wrapped and promotional stills already circulating, a late 2025 release window feels likely--possibly as part of Prime's fall lineup when the platform often rolls out its darker, more dramatic content.
And if you're wondering why there's been so little fanfare: this could be part of the plan. Some of Prime’s most talked-about shows (The English, Chloe) didn't need massive rollouts to find their audience. If The Assassin delivers on the promise of its cast and premise, it could earn its place in that quietly successful category—the kind of show that catches fire because viewers can't stop talking about it.
