What to Know
  • All eight Neagley episodes arrive Sept. 16 exclusively on Prime Video.
  • Maria Sten leads the series, with Alan Ritchson returning as Jack Reacher.

Neagley puts Jack Reacher’s trusted former Army partner at the center of her own case, sending Frances Neagley (Maria Sten) after those responsible for a friend’s suspicious death. All eight episodes premiere Wednesday, Sept. 16, on Prime Video immediately following the Reacher Season 4 finale.

The Chicago private investigator relies on her training with the Army’s 110th Special Investigations Unit to trace what happened and bring the people behind it to justice.

The case is personal from the start. The trailer identifies the victim as Tommy Crane (Jhaleil Swaby), a friend from Neagley’s past whose death is presented as an accident. She does not accept that explanation and begins tracking his final movements.

That search takes her to Echo Canyon Farm, a rehabilitation facility for people recovering from addiction. What she finds pulls her into a larger threat and gives the spinoff a mystery that can stand apart from Reacher while keeping the original series’ mix of clues, confrontations, and blunt justice.

“The most exciting aspect was definitely the world getting to know the backstory of Neagley,” Sten said during an interview at San Diego Comic-Con.

The series also shows what Neagley is like when Reacher is not directing the mission. She has always been capable of matching his pace, but working alone means building connections differently and deciding whom she can trust.

“This is really diving into Neagley's world and seeing how she operates on her own, in her own world, and also how she struggles with that,” Sten told Entertainment Weekly. “That, for me, was exciting to figure out; okay, what does Neagley feel like and look like when she is in her own world, not just coming to save Reacher's ass?”

Her investigation brings in Detective Hudson Riley, played by Greyston Holt, and Renee Birdwhistle, played by Adeline Rudolph. Jasper Jones appears as Keno. Matthew Del Negro (Mayor of Kingstown) plays Pierce Woodrow, while Damon Herriman (Justified) plays Lawrence Cole. Both characters stand on the opposing side of Neagley’s search.

Alan Ritchson guest stars as Reacher, keeping the connection between the two series without taking the central case away from Sten’s character.

Nick Santora (Prison Break) and Nicholas Wootton (Scorpion) created the series and serve as co-showrunners. Sam Hill directed the first two episodes. Paramount Television Studios and Amazon MGM Studios produce the spinoff, which is based on the character created by Lee Child.

Prime Video has confirmed that all eight episodes will be released together, giving viewers the complete investigation at launch.
