Matt Roller (Rick and Morty) brings his offbeat take on family dysfunction and supernatural workplace chaos to Netflix this fall. His new adult animated series, Haunted Hotel, arrives September 19 and follows a quirky family and ghostly guests.
The story takes place entirely within the spooky, highly disorganized, yet somehow still operational Undervale Hotel, where the mother of two struggles to keep things running, with help from her estranged brother, who now haunts the hotel. He's not exactly resting in peace either, he believes the other ghosts have some pretty useful ideas.
The voice cast includes Will Forte, Eliza Coupe, Skyler Gisondo, Natalie Palamides, and Jimmi Simpson, each playing characters caught somewhere between the living and the afterlife. The animation is handled by Titmouse, the same studio behind Big Mouth and The Legend of Vox Machina, so expect a bold, exaggerated visual style that matches the show's humor and surreal premise.

"I'm thrilled to be working with Netflix and an amazingly talented cast and crew to bring to life the stories of the dead, the evil, and the struggling hospitality workers at the Undervale Hotel," Roller said in a statement to TUDUM. Roller, who also worked on Krapopolis, The Goldbergs, and Son of Zorn, serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Chris McKenna (Spider-Man: No Way Home), Dan Harmon (Rick and Morty), and Steve Levy.
In 2025, Netflix is doubling down on adult animation with projects from some of the genre's most recognizable names. Genndy Tartakovsky (Primal) debuts Fixed, a comedy about a dog's last 24 hours before being neutered. Meanwhile, BoJack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg returns with Long Story Short, an animated series that follows a family's entire life in one season.
Roller successfully sold the concept to Netflix in a competitive bidding war, resulting in a series order—an uncommon achievement that highlights the creative team's impressive track record and the show's unique potential.
If you've ever watched shows like Krapopolis or Rick and Morty, then you already know the team behind Haunted Hotel knows how to balance weird humor with unexpected heartfelt moments.
