YAGA: What to Know About the AMC+ Mystery Series, Cast, Yaga Lore, and Premiere

A missing heir, a suspicious coastal town, and whispers of ancient magic are waiting inside AMC+’s next mystery. The streamer has released the trailer for YAGA, an eight-part drama starring Carrie-Anne Moss, Noah Reid, Clark Backo, and Hudson Williams. The series premieres with two episodes Friday, Oct. 23, exclusively on AMC+ in the United States.
YAGA reworks the Baba Yaga legend as a present-day mystery centered on Whittock, a small coastal town where private investigator Rapp, played by Reid (Schitt’s Creek), arrives looking for a missing young heir.
In Slavic folktales, Baba Yaga is a figure often portrayed as a witch who lives deep in the forest in a hut standing on chicken legs. Her role changes from story to story: she may threaten a visitor or help someone who passes her test.
The missing heir is Henry Park, played by Williams (Heated Rivalry), whose disappearance pulls Rapp into a case involving a powerful local fishery and a community full of people with something to hide. His investigation puts him at odds with local detective Carson, played by Backo (Letterkenny), while Moss (Memento) plays Katherine, a university professor who becomes part of the widening mystery.

The trailer also has a familiar song working in its favor. Alanis Morissette performs a cover of Donovan’s “Season of the Witch,” giving the first look at the series an appropriately uneasy soundtrack.
YAGA comes from writer and showrunner Kat Sandler and is based on her play of the same name. David Frazee and Rachel Talalay serve as co-directors. The supporting cast includes Sheila McCarthy, Megan Follows, Ezra Franky, Patrick Gilmore, Katharine Isabelle, Hiro Kanagawa, Emilija Baranac, Georgia Acken, Anisa Harris and Sam Krochmal.

New episodes will arrive Fridays after the premiere, with AMC+ scheduling a two-episode finale for Nov. 27. The Crave Original is produced by Blink49 Studios and Front Street Pictures in association with Bell Media and was acquired by AMC Global Media for U.S. streaming on AMC+.
