AMC FearFest Gives the Crypt Keeper His First New Act in 30 Years

The Crypt Keeper is back, with John Kassir once again providing his voice.
The Crypt Keeper is crawling back in front of the camera. The Tales From the Crypt host will return with newly filmed segments for AMC FearFest, beginning Thursday, Oct. 1, at 11 a.m. on AMC and streaming on AMC+. Greg Nicotero rebuilt the puppet for the event’s 30th anniversary, with John Kassir returning as the character’s unmistakable voice.
The new appearances mark the first original Crypt Keeper material since Tales From the Crypt ended its seven-season run in 1996. Nicotero (The Walking Dead) recreated the puppet at his KNB EFX studio, updating its movement and appearance while keeping the decaying grin, formalwear, and wispy hair that made the character instantly recognizable.
Kassir recorded new dialogue, cackles, and macabre wordplay for the FearFest hosting spots. The actor voiced the Crypt Keeper throughout the original HBO series, introducing stories in which greed, betrayal, and other bad decisions often ended with a gruesome final lesson.
Nicotero also directed the new segments in collaboration with AMC Global Media’s Content Room.

“What a great honor and privilege to re-create this iconic character and get a chance to revisit some of his clever quips and puns with John Kassir again reprising his role,” Nicotero said.
FearFest opens with a Halloween marathon, starting with Halloween III: Season of the Witch at 11 a.m. The Oct. 1 schedule also includes Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers, the original Halloween, and an 11 p.m. Tales From the Crypt marathon.
Across the month, AMC and AMC+ will carry more than 650 hours of horror programming. The lineup includes films from the “Friday the 13th,” “A Nightmare on Elm Street, Final Destination, and Insidious franchises, along with The Shining, Misery, Christine, and other Stephen King adaptations.
The schedule also includes The Terror: Devil in Silver and the Oct. 23 premiere of YAGA, starring Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix), Noah Reid (Schitt’s Creek), and Hudson Williams (Heated Rivalry).
All seven seasons of Tales From the Crypt are available on AMC+ and Shudder.
The anthology began in 1989 and became known for its combination of horror, dark comedy, and recognizable guest stars. Now its resident pun-loving corpse has another chance to welcome viewers into the crypt, one FearFest commercial break at a time.
