Picture making life better in your town, only to see old superstitions come alive and spark a fresh set of problems. Apple TV has released a first-look image for Widow’s Bay starring Matthew Rhys as the mayor of a cursed New England island.
The 10-episode series is scheduled to premiere with three episodes on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. The horror-dramedy, created by Katie Dippold (The Heat), is directed by Emmy Award winner Hiro Murai, known for Atlanta and The Bear.
Mayor Tom Loftis (Rhys) is desperate to revive his struggling community of Widow’s Bay, a quaint island town 40 miles off the coast of New England. But something lurks beneath the surface. There is no Wi-Fi and spotty cellular reception, and he must contend with superstitious locals who believe their island is cursed. He wants these people to respect him. They do not. They think he is soft and cowardly. And he is.
But Loftis is determined to build a better future for his teenage son and turn the island into a tourist destination. Miraculously, he succeeds: tourists are finally coming. Unfortunately, the locals were right. After decades of calm, the old stories that seemed too ludicrous to be true start happening again.
