Prime Video is moving into the world of pet rescue with its new animated series Kevin, which arrives on the streaming platform on April 20, 2026. All eight episodes will debut at once, following the journey of a housecat who decides to leave his human owners behind after they go through a messy breakup.
Set in Astoria, Queens, the show finds Kevin living among a group of misfit animals at a local shelter while he tries to figure out what he wants from life. This heart-warming comedy comes from creators Joe Wengert and Aubrey Plaza, who drew inspiration from a real-life breakup and a cat caught in the middle.
The story starts when the two humans Kevin lives with part ways unexpectedly. Instead of choosing a side, Kevin decides he is done with domestic life. He moves into a rescue center and meets a chaotic band of animals who help him navigate his newfound independence.

Melissa Wolfe, the head of animation at Amazon MGM Studios, noted that the series hits on relatable themes of self-discovery through the eyes of a pet. Joe Wengert, who serves as the showrunner, explained that the real Kevin was with him during difficult times and that the show is a way to thank him by creating a world where he finds a better situation for himself.
The cast features a variety of recognizable voices led by Jason Schwartzman (The Grand Budapest Hotel) as Kevin. Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation) voices Dana, one-half of the human couple, and also serves as an executive producer alongside Dan Murphy (Spin Me Round). The animal residents at the Astoria rescue include Cupcake, a feral cat voiced by Whoopi Goldberg (The Color Purple), and Armando, a Persian cat voiced by John Waters (Hairspray). Amy Sedaris (Strangers with Candy) joins the group as a Shih Tzu named Brandi.
Other key figures in the neighborhood include Seth, the person who runs the pet rescue, voiced by Gil Ozeri (Big Mouth), and Judy, voiced by Aparna Nancherla (BoJack Horseman). The production involves Titmouse, Evil Hag Productions, and Amazon MGM Studios.
Aubrey Plaza and Dan Murphy shared their excitement about the project, stating, “We’re thrilled to be working with Joe and Amazon to bring this cat’s story to the screen. We can’t wait for the world to meet Kevin!”
