Jodie Comer will star as a mother forced to make an unthinkable choice to save her child in HBO's psychological thriller series The Chain, based on Adrian McKinty's bestselling novel and produced by Damon Lindelof, known for Lost, Watchmen, and The Leftovers.

While HBO has not released a full synopsis for the series, McKinty's novel centers on a terrifying, underground kidnapping ring where parents are forced to abduct another child to save their own. In the story, Rachel is a mother trapped and must decide how far she will go to get her daughter back.

The role marks another major television project for Comer following her Emmy-winning performance in Killing Eve, where she played the unpredictable assassin Villanelle. Over the last several years, Comer has starred in thrillers, sci-fi, and period dramas, including The Bikeriders, Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker, and 28 Years Later.

"From the moment I heard the wild and original premise of Adrian's book, I was shocked, surprised, and angry I hadn't thought of it myself. I've always wanted to try to adapt a great thriller, and this one has all the dark, weird, exhilarating touches that fire up my imagination," said showrunner Damon Lindelof.

The novel became a bestseller following its 2019 release and is being adapted for television as a limited eight-episode series. Lindelof is attached as writer, showrunner, and executive producer.

The pilot story is by Damon Lindelof, Carly Wray, and Breannah Gibson, with Lindelof and Wray writing the pilot script. Additional casting details and a release window for The Chain have not yet been announced. But HBO stated that Lindelof might be expanding the mythology of McKinty's thriller.
