Over the years, Expedition Unknown has taken us around the world, from the jungles of Cambodia to shipwrecks in the Caribbean, chasing lost cities, sunken treasures, and ancient hidden secrets. Now, Gates sets out to answer a question he's often asked: "Are there still things left to be found in the world?"
In the new season, Josh Gates kicks things off with what's described as one of his boldest investigations yet: a hidden Nazi project from World War II that aimed to build a plane powerful enough to attack New York City. In the season premiere of Expedition Unknown, which returns Wednesday, June 18 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, Gates travels to Poland to explore underground tunnels and secret weapons sites linked to the Amerikabomber.
Gates will travel across five continents chasing answers to some of history's biggest mysteries. He dives into the waters of Greece to find ancient shipwrecks, explores the oldest known ruins in Turkey, and heads deep into the Pacific Ocean on a mission to find a missing plane from World War II.
The Bronx County Historical Society will host a lecture on Joe Two Trees known as the "Last Algonquin" of Pelham Bay Park, examining the legend and how such stories take shape:

"I've never been more excited to share a new season of Expedition Unknown," said Gates. "Every year, we try to set a new bar for adventure, archaeology, and action, and I think these may be our biggest expeditions yet."
Later in the season, Gates travels to Kenya to look into the legend of the Ghost and the Darkness, two lions that attacked railroad workers in 1898. Then it's back to the U.S., where he searches for the long-lost treasure of the pirate Anne Bonny in South Carolina. He also digs into the mystery around Buffalo Bill's final resting place in the Wild West.
Recently, Gates and a team of archaeologists uncovered a hidden tomb beneath Petra, the ancient city famously featured in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. The team found 12 complete human skeletons along with bronze, ceramic, and iron artifacts. And if you're into wild adventures backed by real facts, you already know Gates will make this season worth the trip.
New episodes of Expedition Unknown air Wednesday nights on Discovery Channel. You can also stream them on Discovery+.
