Butterfly, a new spy thriller series starring and executive produced by Daniel Dae Kim, premieres Wednesday, August 13, on Prime Video. All six episodes will drop at once, giving fans a full season to dive into Kim’s most intense role yet, a former U.S. intelligence officer on the run in South Korea.

Based on the graphic novel by Arash Amel, the show follows David Jung (Kim), a man trying to stay hidden after walking away from espionage. But when an old decision resurfaces, David finds himself hunted by Rebecca (Reina Hardesty), a ruthless young agent sent to kill him. The two are entangled in a deadly chase, with the shadowy organization Caddis pulling the strings.

Kim is joined by a strong ensemble cast including Piper Perabo (Yellowstone), Louis Landau (Rivals), and a lineup of recurring actors like Kim Ji-hoon, Park Hae-soo, Kim Tae-hee, Charles Parnell, Sean Dulake, and Nayoon Kim. Guest stars include Sung Dong-il and Lee Il-hwa, rounding out the cast.

Ken Woodruff (Gotham, The Mentalist) serves as showrunner and co-creator alongside novelist Steph Cha. The project brings together multiple production teams, including Kim’s 3AD and BOOM! Studios, under a first-look deal with Amazon-MGM Studios. Kitao Sakurai directed the first two episodes of the series.
