One panel may have wrapped, but there's still time to catch two upcoming street art discussions hosted at Inspiration Point, the Bronx's arts center, which rose from the site of the former Spofford Juvenile Detention Center in Hunts Point.

On Friday, August 8, at 6:30 p.m., muralists BG183 and KING BEE will headline "The Business of Murals in The Bronx," exploring how graffiti has evolved into an entrepreneurial and neighborhood-focused movement. The final panel, "From Subway Art to Walls," happens Thursday, August 19 at 6:30 p.m., and features artists WEN and WANE discussing how train art shifted into large-scale murals, including work from the Boone Avenue Walls Foundation, which is now entering its 11th year.

All events are free and open to the public at Inspiration Point, 710 Tiffany Street. RSVP links are available at The Bronx Historical Society's event page, bronxhistoricalsociety.org.

The series is a collaboration between The Bronx County Historical Society (BCHS), Boone Avenue Walls, and moderator Kurt Boone, a longtime documentarian of street and cycling culture. Boone has published over 20 books capturing graffiti, sneaker trends, spoken word, and pandemic-era protest art. His photography has appeared in exhibits across New York, including at the Museum of the City of New York.

This is a powerful continuation for a space once known for confinement. Once a symbol of hardship in Hunts Point, the former Spofford facility was transformed into Inspiration Point, a nonprofit hub for theater, arts, and community programming. It's part of The Peninsula, a mixed-use development supporting the South Bronx's creative and tech communities.

The first panel, held in July, brought together TKID, El Souls, and CLAW MONEY for a multigenerational look at the evolution of graffiti since the 1970s. The remaining talks continue that conversation, offering a rare opportunity to hear directly from the artists shaping the city's walls and legacy.

While street art takes the spotlight at Inspiration Point, another corner of the Bronx is amplifying its underground legacy. At the Museum of Bronx History, Uptown Rumble: Heavy Music in The Bronx is on view through November, highlighting the borough's roots in hardcore and punk, with a focus on the women, non-binary, and trans artists of color who helped shape it.

The exhibit builds on a recent panel hosted by BCHS and Seis del Sur photographer Abigail Montes, which also featured Destiny Mata and Daisy Ruiz in conversation about DIY music spaces, identity, and the enduring power of loud expression.

The Bronx County Historical Society, along with its partners, continues to bring powerful voices together, shining a light on the borough's past, present, and the spaces that hold its stories. Places like Inspiration Point, which rose from a dark chapter to become a beacon for the arts in Hunts Point, reminding us that in The Bronx, art doesn't just decorate, it speaks, it fights, and it remembers.
