Bronx County Historical Society Hosts Nevermore Night Market With Militia Vox

Nevermore brings Poe readings, Gothic vendors, and Militia Vox to the Bronx.
The free event begins Oct. 24 at Poe Park, with cottage tours starting at 4 p.m.
The Bronx County Historical Society is bringing books, music, and a touch of Gothic style to Poe Park with the Nevermore Literary Salon & Night Market on Saturday, October 24.
The evening starts with VIP tours of Edgar Allan Poe Cottage from 4 to 6 p.m. Poe lived in the Bronx home from 1846 to 1849. It was his final permanent residence and the place where he wrote Annabel Lee, The Bells, and Eureka.
At 5 p.m., the Poe Park Visitor Center next door will open for the night market. Guests will find themed cocktails, sweet treats, and vendors selling Poe-inspired books and merchandise. Gothic romantic clothing is encouraged, though visitors can come dressed as they are.

Readings begin at 6 p.m. and will feature contributors to the 2024 essay collection More than Love: The Enduring Fascination with Edgar Allan Poe. Edited by Amy Branam Armiento, the book looks at Poe’s lasting influence through personal essays from musicians, artists, writers, museum workers, and others. Its title comes from a well-known line in 'Annabel Lee.'
One of the evening’s main guests is Militia Vox, who contributed an essay to the book and will perform live. The New York singer and visual artist mixes heavy metal, rock, Gothic, and industrial music. She is also the frontwoman of the all-female tribute band Judas Priestess.
Vox’s connection to Poe goes beyond her music. She is a member of the Poe Society of Baltimore and serves on Poe Baltimore’s Institutional Advisory Committee.
Nevermore Literary Salon & Night Market will be held at the Poe Park Visitor Center, 2640 Grand Concourse. The Bronx Beer Hall and Nefarious Confections are also taking part in the event.
Admission is advertised as free with an RSVP. Visitors can check the available options and reserve a place online.
