NYC Movies Under the Stars Welcomes Fall With More Films Across the Bronx

Movies Under the Stars continues in the Bronx as summer gives way to fall.
Six free screenings will take place in local parks from Sept. 1 through Sept. 8.
Summer may be winding down, but outdoor movie season is not over in the Bronx. NYC Parks will welcome the fall season with six free Movies Under the Stars screenings from Tuesday, Sept. 1, through Tuesday, Sept. 8. The early September lineup gives residents another chance to bring out a blanket, find a spot in a neighborhood park, and watch a movie before cooling weather settles in.
Early September can still feel like summer, even as the changing leaves and shorter days begin pointing toward fall. This round of screenings brings together new releases, family adventures and familiar favorites at parks across the borough.
The schedule begins with Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu at Walton Park on Sept. 1 and Devoe Park on Sept. 2. The adventure follows Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu as they help the New Republic confront Imperial warlords after the fall of the Empire.
Sigourney Weaver also stars, while Martin Scorsese and Jeremy Allen White provide voices. Jon Favreau directed the film and wrote it with Dave Filoni and Noah Kloor.
The Walton Park screening will be held between East 181st Street, Walton Avenue and Jerome Avenue. The following night’s presentation will take place near the University and Wagner Avenues entrance to Devoe Park.

Small Soldiers comes to Washington’s Walk, 2890 Sedgwick Ave., on Sept. 3. The 1998 comedy follows military action figures that become dangerously independent after receiving advanced computer chips. Gregory Smith and Kirsten Dunst star, with Tommy Lee Jones and Frank Langella among the voice cast.
On Sept. 4, Karate Kid: Legends will screen at Colucci Playground. Ben Wang stars as Li Fong, a kung fu student who moves from Beijing to New York and prepares for a karate competition with help from Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) and Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio). The movie will be shown in the play area near Hutchinson River Parkway East, between Wilkinson Avenue and East 197th Street.
The fall season gets a touch of 1990s nostalgia when Space Jam arrives at Mill Pond Park on Sept. 5. The 1996 movie pairs Michael Jordan with Bugs Bunny and the Looney Tunes for a basketball game against a team of aliens. Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, Larry Bird, and other basketball stars make appearances. Mill Pond Park is located at 65 E. 149th St.

The September schedule continues Sept. 8 with Michael at Eastchester Playground, near Adee and Tenbroeck Avenues. The biographical drama follows Michael Jackson’s early life, from the discovery of his talent as a member of the Jackson Five to his pursuit of a solo career.
Each screening is scheduled from 8 to 10:30 p.m., with the movies beginning around dusk. Admission is free through NYC Parks’ Movies Under the Stars program, presented in partnership with the NYC Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment.
Chairs are reserved for seniors and people with disabilities. Visitors may bring blankets, portable chairs, and food, but glass bottles and alcoholic beverages are prohibited. Several selections are rated PG-13, so parents may want to check the rating before attending.
Heavy rain or extreme weather may force a cancellation. Moviegoers should check the NYC Parks website for updates before leaving home.
