Will Ferrell takes a swing at series television, starring as legendary golfer Lonnie "The Hawk" Hawkins in a comeback tale where the fairway’s call is impossible to ignore. Netflix announced that The Hawk, a 10-episode comedy series, will premiere this summer, with reports pointing to a July 2026 release.

The project marks a milestone for Ferrell. While he spent seven seasons on Saturday Night Live from 1995 to 2002, The Hawk is his first television comedy series built around an original character.

The recently released teaser shows Ferrell in character, wearing a hot-pink golf shirt and a white visor over his curly, platinum-blonde hair. A voiceover calls Hawkins "a legend, an icon, a champion, an American hero," while Ferrell's character mouths along before chiming in: "That's me. I'm him. That's who they're talking about. If you were wondering."

The plot centers on a man at a crossroads. Lonnie’s body is telling him it is time to retire, but he remains convinced he is only one stroke away from completing a career Grand Slam and securing the greatest comeback in the history of the sport. His journey is complicated by his family and peers, who believe his best days are long behind him.

The ensemble includes several familiar faces from the comedy world. Molly Shannon (Saturday Night Live) plays Stacy, while Jimmy Tatro (American Vandal) appears as Lance, a rising golf star stepping out of his father’s shadow. Fortune Feimster (The Mindy Project) plays Sam, a new caddie who may be Lonnie’s last bit of luck. Luke Wilson (Legally Blonde) takes on the role of Golden Fisk, a rival who has beaten Lonnie in the past.

Other key players include Chris Parnell (30 Rock) as Anton, a difficult member of the PGA Tour board, and Katelyn Tarver (Ballers) as Natalie, a social media influencer engaged to Lance. David Hornsby (Mythic Quest) also joins the production as Radford, the man currently dating Lonnie’s ex-wife.

The series was developed in partnership with the PGA Tour to ensure the world of professional golf feels grounded. To capture this authenticity, the production filmed at several high-profile locations during real-world matches. Cameras were spotted at TGL match events and throughout Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Additionally, the crew filmed at the Pelican Hill Golf Club in Newport Beach to capture the high-stakes atmosphere of the professional circuit.
