Twisted Metal is returning for season three, with Peacock setting the next chapter in motion and naming David Reed as the new showrunner. The streamer confirmed the renewal, noting that Reed steps in as showrunner for season three, taking over the role as the new season moves into development and production.
The series remains a key title for Peacock, with its second season reaching 993 million minutes viewed and ranking among the platform’s highest-performing returning scripted shows.
Reed joins the show with a long list of credits from both genre hits and character-driven dramas. He is a WGA Award-nominated writer, director and producer who currently works as a writer and executive producer on Prime Video’s The Boys.
His television background includes Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, The Magicians, Aquarius, Revolution, and Supernatural, along with pilots sold to several networks and studios. His early career began on Battlestar Galactica, and he has since moved across TV, novels, comic books, and video games. His deal at Sony Pictures Television puts him in a familiar position as he steps into this new role.
Michael Jonathan Smith, who guided the first two seasons, will conclude his involvement as showrunner and executive producer. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, and Universal Television. Returning cast members include Anthony Mackie, Stephanie Beatriz, Joe Seanoa, and Will Arnett, whose characters helped define the fast-moving tone that shaped the first seasons.

Reed will executive produce alongside Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Arnett and Marc Forman from Electric Ave will continue their work as executive producers, joined by Mackie through Make It Gravy Productions, Jason Spire of Inspire Entertainment, Peter Principato of Artists First, and Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan of PlayStation Productions.
Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business, also remains part of the producing team. With much of the creative lineup returning, season three is positioned to build on the structure already in place.
Peacock has not announced plot details or filming dates yet, and no season premiere window has been released. For now, the renewal signals that the series continues to perform well and still fits into Peacock’s broader strategy for original programming. As work begins, viewers can expect another round of the show’s trademark energy, shaped this time through Reed’s perspective.
