Hugh Laurie Faces a Prison Escape in Apple TV’s The Wanted Man

Hugh Laurie is heading to prison in The Wanted Man, but his character has no intention of staying there. Apple TV has released first-look images of the eight-episode crime drama, which premieres globally Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2027. The first two episodes arrive together, followed by one each Wednesday through Feb. 17.
Laurie (House) plays Felix Carmichael, an organized crime boss betrayed by someone inside his firm and sent to Staplehurst prison. Felix must reckon with his own brutality as he fights to survive. With his family, business, and fortune at risk, he decides to escape.

The cast also includes Thandiwe Newton (Westworld), Fionn Whitehead (Dunkirk), Gina McKee (My Policeman), Hazel Doupe (Say Nothing), Elliott Heffernan (Blitz) and Stephen Dillane (Game of Thrones). Apple has not shared details about their characters.
Laurie has another series on the way, too. He plays a British archaeology professor opposite Amy Poehler in Peacock’s Dig, a comedy premiering Nov. 23.
George Kay, whose credits include Hijack and Lupin, created and wrote The Wanted Man. He serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Willow Grylls and Matt Sandford. Jakob Verbruggen directs, and New Pictures and Kay’s Observatory Pictures produce the series.
