What to Know
  • Lonnie "The Hawk" Hawkins surprised New Yorkers at Times Square.
  • Appearance is part of an East Coast tour ahead of Netflix's July debut

New Yorkers were surprised when Lonnie  "The Hawk" Hawkins, played by Will Ferrell (Anchorman), stopped by Times Square on Friday, June 19, 2026, as part of "The Hawk Bus Tour," a character-driven promotional campaign for the upcoming Netflix comedy series The Hawk set to premiere on Netflix on July 16.

The New York appearance came days after Hawkins launched the tour in Pinehurst, North Carolina, where the golfer visited the World Golf Hall of Fame, greeted fans, and addressed questions about his pursuit of one last major title. During the stop, Hawkins was inducted into the Hall of Fame for one day, though he refused to accept it as a temporary honor.

Ferrell has been appearing at tour stops fully in character and also appeared on WRAL News to demonstrate his "golfing touch" and "power putt" moves during the interview.

Upcoming tour stops include the Hamptons on June 20, the Travelers Championship on June 24, and Netflix House in Philadelphia on July 13. The campaign has also expanded beyond public appearances, with Hawkins opening a social media account with some help from Kim Kardashian.

At the event in Pinehurst, Hawkins also spoke about his catchphrase, saying, "My catch phrase is 'that's how it's done' it reminds people…that's how it's done."

The comedy follows Hawkins, the No. 1 golfer of 2004, as he tries to recapture his magic. His body says retire, but his heart says he's not done yet. With one more major victory needed to complete golf's Grand Slam, Hawkins remains convinced he is one stroke away from the greatest comeback in golf history.

The pressure extends beyond the golf course. His ex-wife, Stacy, and son, Lance, believe that The Hawk's best days are behind him.

Reflecting on Father's Day, Hawkins remarked, "Once they get older, they become a real drag on your finances and your patience. Enjoy them while they're young." Lance has emerged as golf's new golden boy, adding family tension to Hawkins' pursuit of one final victory.

The cast includes Ferrell, Molly Shannon (Saturday Night Live), Jimmy Tatro (American Vandal), Fortune Feimster (The Mindy Project), Luke Wilson (Old School), Chris Parnell (Saturday Night Live), Katelyn Tarver (Big Time Rush), and David Hornsby (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia).

Produced with support from the PGA Tour, the 10-episode series was filmed around real golf settings, including TGL events, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and Pelican Hill Golf Club in Newport Beach, California.
