A familiar name in TV talent competitions is stepping back into the spotlight as Star Search returns as a live event on Netflix, starting January 20, 2026. The five-week series will stream live every Tuesday and Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET, giving viewers a direct role in deciding which performers move forward through real-time voting. Episodes can be watched on TV or through the Netflix mobile app, where voting is built directly into the viewing experience.

This new version of Star Search brings together a high-profile judging panel that includes Jelly Roll, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Chrissy Teigen. The series is hosted by Anthony Anderson, who guides both contestants and viewers through the live format.

Each episode features performers competing across multiple categories, including music, dance, comedy, magic, variety, and junior acts. Contestants face weekly eliminations, with audience votes helping determine who advances. The live setup is designed to make each episode feel immediate and participatory, encouraging viewers to stay engaged from start to finish.

The show also carries a strong sense of history. The original Star Search helped introduce future stars such as Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Dave Chappelle, and Adam Sandler to national audiences. After being off the air for two decades, the updated series aims to connect that legacy with today’s talent landscape.

Produced by Jesse Collins Entertainment, the revival positions Star Search as both a throwback and a modern live competition. With scheduled weekly broadcasts and audience interaction at its core, the series is set up to become a shared viewing experience once again.
