Will the view from behind the Iron Curtain change everything we know about the lunar race? Apple TV released the first images of Star City, a new eight-episode drama that reimagines the moment the Soviet Union landed the first man on the moon.

The series starts globally on Friday, May 29, with two episodes. Viewers can watch the show exclusively on Apple TV, with new chapters arriving every Friday until the finale on July 10.

This project comes from the same creative team behind For All Mankind, including Ben Nedivi, Matt Wolpert, and Ronald D. Moore. While their previous work followed the American side of an alternate history, this story focuses entirely on the Soviet space program.

It tracks the lives of the cosmonauts, engineers, and intelligence officers who lived and worked within the secret city. The plot moves like a paranoid thriller, highlighting the hidden risks these workers took to achieve a historical milestone before the United States.

The production features a deep cast of familiar faces from major television franchises. The lineup includes Rhys Ifans (House of the Dragon), Anna Maxwell Martin (Motherland), and Agnes O’Casey (Black Doves).

Behind the scenes, Wolpert and Nedivi act as the primary showrunners. They are executive producing the series alongside Moore and Maril Davis for Tall Ship Productions. Andrew Chambliss and Steve Oster also serve as executive producers on the project. Sony Pictures Television is producing the show for the streaming platform.

Star City offers a chance to see how the same altered history plays out on the other side of the space race. The show promises to dig into the personal costs and the secrecy that defined the Soviet era. With the premiere just around the corner, it looks like fans will soon have something new to explore.
