Apple TV+ will debut the psychological horror thriller Cape Fear worldwide on Friday, June 5, 2026, launching with the first two episodes of the 10 episode limited series. New episodes will follow every Friday through July 31. The series stars Javier Bardem and Amy Adams and is created and showrun by Nick Antosca. Inspired by the 1991 film remake, the show brings a familiar story to streaming while introducing a new television adaptation produced by major names in film and TV.

The story centers on married attorneys Anna and Tom Bowden, played by Adams and Patrick Wilson. Their lives are disrupted when Max Cady, a convicted killer portrayed by Bardem, is released from prison. The Bowdens were responsible for putting him behind bars, and his release sets off a chain of events tied to revenge. The premise draws directly from earlier versions of Cape Fear, including the 1962 film and the later remake.

Cape Fear is executive produced by Academy Award winners Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg, who were also behind the 1991 film adaptation. Adams also serves as an executive producer on the series. The ensemble cast includes Patrick Wilson, CCH Pounder, Joe Anders, Lily Collias, Jamie Hector, Malia Pyles, and Anna Baryshnikov.

The original 1962 film featured a notable cast that included Gregory Peck, Polly Bergen, Robert Mitchum, Martin Balsam, and Telly Savalas. The 1991 remake also brought together major names such as Robert De Niro, Nick Nolte, and Jessica Lange.

In a direct nod to the earlier 1962 film, director Martin Scorsese cast Gregory Peck, Robert Mitchum, and Martin Balsam in supporting roles for the remake. The new Cape Fear series continues a tradition of adaptations featuring famous actors over the years.

The series is produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, alongside Amblin Television. It is based on the novel The Executioners, which inspired the earlier film versions. Antosca produces the show through his overall deal with UCP, working with longtime collaborators and producers tied to Amblin.
