Selena y Los Dinos: A Family’s Legacy, the long-awaited documentary celebrating the life and legacy of Selena, premieres November 17 on Netflix. Directed by Isabel Castro (Mija), the film brings viewers closer than ever to the Queen of Tejano through never-before-seen footage and interviews with her family, revealing the story behind one of music’s most beloved icons.

Produced by Simran Singh, Julie Goldman, Christopher Clements, J. Daniel Torres, and David Blackman, the documentary traces Selena’s rise from local performances at her family’s Tex-Mex restaurant in Lake Jackson, Texas, to global superstardom. Alongside her brother A.B. Quintanilla III on bass and her sister Suzette on drums, Selena helped redefine Tejano music and opened doors for generations of Latin artists.

Selena y Los Dinos: A Family’s Legacy captures this evolution through the eyes of those who knew her best. The documentary draws from the Quintanilla family’s personal archive and features intimate interviews with her parents, Marcella and Abraham, her husband Chris Pérez, and former bandmates. Executive producers include Selena’s siblings, Suzette and A.B. Quintanilla III, along with Michele Anthony, who helped bring the project to life.

In a statement to Netflix’s Tudum, director Isabel Castro said, “As a filmmaker, I wanted to honor her extraordinary rise and enduring legacy, while also giving a window into her life behind the stage. Through personal archive and intimate interviews with her family, the film reveals new dimensions of her journey that have never been seen before.”

The documentary premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival, where it received the U.S. Documentary Special Jury Award for Archival Storytelling. Suzette Quintanilla shared her excitement about the film’s global release, saying, “We are so excited to finally share that our documentary Selena y Los Dinos is coming to Netflix! Grateful to have a platform that helps bring Selena’s story to fans around the world.”

For fans who grew up with Selena’s music, and for a new generation discovering her for the first time, this documentary promises to remind viewers why her voice, charisma, and spirit still shine decades later.
