Alley Cats, a new adult animated comedy created by Ricky Gervais, is set to premiere on Netflix in 2026. The series will run for six episodes, each about 15 minutes long, and will feature Gervais alongside a cast of familiar British comedy names, including Tom Basden, David Earl, Kerry Godliman, Diane Morgan, and Natalie Cassidy.

The show follows a group of feral cats living in the UK who form friendships while reflecting on the struggles of daily life. Produced in bold 2D style by Blink Industries. The studio behind Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared a series that blends offbeat humor with the kind of sharp social commentary audiences have come to expect from Gervais.

Gervais, who also serves as co-director and executive producer, said he leaned into typecasting for the role. “I play a fat, lazy, rude, opinionated creature with fangs, who’s not as smart or brave as he thinks he is. So quite a stretch,” he joked. The production team includes Elliot Dear as co-director, Steven Hamilton Shaw (Gnomeo & Juliet) as executive producer, and Tang Heng (Kung Fu Panda 1 & 2) as production designer.

This 90s Star Trek: The Next Generation episode speaks volumes in the digital age. This one line captures the weight of modern connection and the need for quiet. Read this TalkTeaV brief spotlight.

The cast reunites Gervais with longtime collaborators such as Godliman (After Life), Earl (Derek), and Morgan (Extras), making Alley Cats both a showcase of his comedy circle and a nod to the kind of ensemble character work that defined The Office and Extras.

Netflix has steadily expanded its slate of adult animation in recent years, with titles like Big Mouth and Bojack Horseman. Alley Cats adds a distinctly British voice to that lineup, promising sharp humor rooted in Gervais’ trademark mix of cynicism and heart.

If the series delivers on its premise, it could give the phrase “cat humor” a whole new meaning.
