People We Meet on Vacation will premiere on Netflix on January 9, 2026, bringing Emily Henry’s bestselling novel to the screen for the first time. Directed by Brett Haley (Hearts Beat Loud), the film stars Tom Blyth as Alex and Emily Bader as Poppy, two best friends whose annual vacations force them to confront whether they might be more than just friends.

"This is a movie that doesn't just tell a love story. It makes you feel like you've gone on vacation right alongside Poppy and Alex."- Director Brett Haley, TUDUM

The movie adapts Henry’s 2021 novel, which debuted at No. 1 on The New York Times bestseller list and went on to sell more than 2 million copies in the United States. It is the author’s first book-to-film adaptation, a milestone that fans of her romantic comedies have been anticipating.

The story follows free-spirited Poppy and measured Alex, who have kept up their unlikely friendship for a decade despite living in different cities. Every summer, they meet for vacation, a tradition that begins to unravel when feelings they’ve long ignored start to surface. The Netflix film was filmed on location from New Orleans to Barcelona, a shift from the book’s Palm Springs setting.

Joining Blyth and Bader in the ensemble cast are Sarah Catherine Hook (First Kill), Jameela Jamil (The Good Place), Lucien Laviscount (Emily in Paris), Lukas Gage (You), Miles Heizer (13 Reasons Why), Tommy Do (Hacks), Alice Lee (Sierra Burgess Is a Loser), Alan Ruck (Succession), and Molly Shannon (The White Lotus).
