Margaret Qualley stars as a sharp-tongued private eye tangled up in small-town secrets

Margaret Qualley stars as a quick-witted, small-town private investigator in 'Honey Don't!,' a dark comedy noir that puts a fresh spin on murder and mayhem. The film, which earned a six-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival, follows Honey O'Donahue as she investigates a string of bizarre deaths connected to a shady local church.

This offbeat crime tale also stars Aubrey Plaza as MG Falcone, Charlie Day, Billy Eichner, and Chris Evans as the charismatic Reverend Drew. It's directed by Ethan Coen and co-written with Tricia Cooke, who previously teamed up on Drive-Away Dolls. 'Honey Don't!' arrives in theaters on August 22, 2025.

Did you know before Twilight, True Blood, and even Buffy had fully staked their claim, one soap opera quietly let vampires run wild in the afternoon? GH's Port Charles and Its Vampire Legacy

Other familiar faces round out the cast, including Lena Hall (Snowpiercer), Don Swayze as Gary, Gregg Binkley (Raising Hope) as a small-town bartender, and Kristen Connolly (As the World Turns). It's a mix that promises tension, laughs, and plenty of side-eye.

'Honey Don't!,' is described as a stylized, darkly funny film, anchored by a heroine who talks more like a 1940s gumshoe than a modern detective. The setting—an oddball small town wrapped around a secretive church—adds a layer of twisted Americana that feels both familiar and strange.

Add to that the Cannes buzz and the return of Coen and Cooke's off-center storytelling, and this becomes one of the more intriguing releases on the horizon. Fans of quirky crime stories, dark comedies, or just seeing big names play a little weird will want to keep this one on their radar.

Honey Don't! will open in theaters. No streaming plans have been announced yet, so if you want to catch it first, the big screen is your best bet.
