Apple TV announced a season two renewal of the private detective series Down Cemetery Road, starring Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson. The series is based on Mick Herron’s Zoë Boehm novels and will continue the story due to strong viewer response and critical reception.
Down Cemetery Road follows Zoë Boehm, played by Thompson, a private investigator who does not fit the polished image often expected of the job. She is sharp, stubborn, and guided more by instinct than rules. Ruth Wilson co-stars as Sarah Trafford, a woman whose life becomes tied to Zoë’s cases in unexpected ways. Their uneasy partnership is at the heart of the series and gives the story much of its tension and humor.
In season one, Thompson, who also serves as executive producer, is joined by a strong supporting cast that includes Adeel Akhtar, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Tom Goodman-Hill, Darren Boyd, Tom Riley, Adam Godley, Sinead Matthews, Ken Nwosu, Fehinti Balogun, and Aiysha Hart. The series is written by Morwenna Banks, whose credits include Slow Horses, another Herron adaptation that has become one of Apple TV+’s longest-running dramas. Natalie Bailey (Bay of Fires) directs.

Herron has built a loyal fan base through his successful novels and the TV series Slow Horses, which was recently renewed for a seventh season. While Slow Horses focuses on spies, Down Cemetery Road shifts to a more personal and suspenseful setting: an English suburb where old secrets come back to haunt the present. This new series adds to Apple TV+’s dedication to high-quality literary thrillers.
In the new season, Zoë and Sarah will take on another case that quickly turns personal. After a woman falls in front of a train, Zoë is asked to look into what first appears to be a straightforward incident. The investigation pulls both women into a hidden world of illegal antiquities trading, where wealth and danger sit side by side. As they dig deeper, the case grows darker, placing them in the path of a serial killer determined to protect his secrets.
The series is written by Morwenna Banks, who also serves as an executive producer. Season two will again be produced by 60Forty Films, with Banks joined by Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Tom Nash, Emma Thompson, and author Mick Herron. Börkur Sigþórssen is set to serve as lead director for the new season.
