Die, My Love, the new film from director Lynne Ramsay, will hit North American theaters on Friday, November 7, 2025. Distributed by MUBI, the film made its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received a six-minute standing ovation and became the festival’s biggest acquisition, purchased by MUBI for $24 million. The film stars Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson as a couple whose relationship spirals out of control in a quiet countryside setting.

Adapted from the novel by Argentine writer Ariana Harwicz, the film follows a young mother named Grace, played by Lawrence, who is "fighting her inner demons" in the French countryside. Ramsay co-wrote the screenplay with Enda Walsh and Alice Birch, and the early reception suggests that Die, My Love may rank among the director's most celebrated works.

Ramsay has a long history with Cannes, beginning in 1996 with her graduate short Small Deaths, which won the Jury Prize for Best Short Film. Her debut feature Ratcatcher appeared in the Un Certain Regard section in 2000. Later, We Need to Talk About Kevin was the only British film up for the Palme d'Or in 2011, and You Were Never Really Here earned her the Best Screenplay award in 2017. This marks her eighth selection at the festival.

"This film is for anyone who's ever been in a relationship," Ramsay said in a statement. "There's heartbreak and beauty in vulnerability." Her aim was to keep the film "grounded, human, spontaneous, and funny at times," despite its darker themes.

Production companies include Excellent Cadaver, Black Label Media, and Sikelia Productions, with financing from Black Label. Among the producers are Andrea Calderwood, Justine Ciarrocchi, Jennifer Lawrence, Thad and Trent Luckinbill, Martin Scorsese, and Molly Smith.

The title may be chilling, but it's the emotional mess beneath the surface that's likely to spark the most conversation. After all, love stories don't always end with closure; sometimes, they end with questions.
