Everyone's favorite serial killer is returning, and this time, we get to see where all the blood splatter began. Previously titled Dexter: Origins, Showtime's highly anticipated series is now Dexter: Original Sin, and that's not the only news. This 10-episode thriller is a prequel to the original and marks the return of Emmy nominee Clyde Phillips (Dexter, Nurse Jackie) as showrunner and executive producer.
Dexter: Original Sin stars Patrick Gibson as Dexter Morgan, with Christian Slater playing his adoptive father, Harry Morgan. Set in 1991 Miami, the series follows Dexter's transformation from a student to a serial killer. Guided by Harry, a seasoned homicide detective, Dexter develops a Code to eliminate those who deserve to be removed from society while evading law enforcement.
Molly Brown, known for Senior Year and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, joins the cast as Dexter's sister, Debra Morgan. Slater, a Golden Globe winner recognized for his role in Mr. Robot, brings his acclaimed talent to Harry Morgan, with extensive credits including Dr. Death, Dirty John, and Heathers. Gibson, recognized for Shadow and Bone, takes on the complex character of young Dexter.
Original Sin promises a deeper look into Dexter's early years, showcasing his struggle to control his dark urges while beginning a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.
The original Dexter series, which aired from 2006 to 2013, was a critical success, earning multiple Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. It continues to be celebrated as one of the best-written TV series. The sequel Dexter: New Blood set viewership records for Showtime.
Dexter:Â Original Sin is executive produced by Clyde Phillips, Michael C. Hall, Scott Reynolds, Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez, and Lilly Burns, with Michael Lehmann directing. The series is produced by Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios and distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution outside Paramount+ markets.
