The Bronx Filmmakers Collective (TBxF) is hosting Crewing Up: Directing, a public panel taking place at the Andrew Freedman Home on Saturday, November 22, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event is part of the Bronx Frame series and gives local audiences a chance to hear directly from directors working in film, television, and theater. Attendees can expect industry insight, personal stories, and a look at how creative decisions come together behind the camera.

The evening features three panelists with deep ties to New York and the Bronx: Danielle Alonzo, Eric L. Jimenez, and David Zayas Jr. Their careers stretch across multiple formats, which helps set the tone for a conversation grounded in real experience. A Q&A and networking session will close out the night, giving guests a chance to ask questions and connect with working artists. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The Bronx Filmmakers Collective has spent years building space for local creators, offering workshops, screenings, and events that help filmmakers learn from one another. They have become a steady presence in the borough’s film community, with a focus on keeping Bronx stories connected to Bronx audiences.

Alonzo, who grew up in the Bronx, is known for her autobiographical web series Bronx Ish. The series has reached more than 11 million views and is rooted in everyday life in the borough. Her work in television and theater centers on identity, humor, and storytelling that reflects where she comes from.

Jimenez, a filmmaker who started shooting skits as a kid, now works as a Directors Guild of America (DGA) trainee on major sets, including Netflix projects and the new series CIA from Dick Wolf. His path reflects the mix of persistence and community influence many emerging directors talk about.

Zayas Jr., a Bronx native, has directed both theater and film, including an Off-Broadway production at the Chain Theatre. His work in staged readings, festivals, and independent films shows how directing crosses many formats, not just scripted TV or studio features. Each speaker brings a different entry point into the field, which gives the panel its range.

Crewing Up: Directing is part of the Bronx Frame series, which highlights filmmaking shaped in and by the borough. The Bronx Filmmakers Collective partners with the Andrew Freedman Home to create events that support learning, collaboration, and community visibility.

The Andrew Freedman Home serves as a hub for artists and public programming, offering space for creative work, community events, and cultural projects throughout the borough. The organizers note that the event will be photographed and recorded.

As the description suggests, the panel aims to give audiences a grounded look at directing without promising any single takeaway. For anyone curious about creative careers, it offers a chance to hear from people who live and work in the same neighborhoods.
