The Spanish Harlem Orchestra (SHO) will celebrate the holiday season with Bronxites on Saturday, December 6 at 8 p.m., filling the Main Theater at Hostos Center for the Arts & Culture with the rhythms that have shaped the Latin music scene in New York.

Led by Oscar Hernández, the concert brings the group back to The Bronx for an evening built around live musicianship, cultural pride, and the start of the holiday season.

The three-time Grammy Award-winning orchestra is known for its crisp horn lines, layered percussion, and the signature sound that has carried it across major stages worldwide. This year’s performance includes music from the group’s new album Salsa Navidad and features Grammy-nominated vocalist Hermán Olivera along with special guest Edwin Colón Zayas, Puerto Rico’s “Master of the Cuatro.”

Hernández said the meaning behind the holiday music stays personal and rooted in heritage. “The inspiration was to honor the tradition of Puerto Rican and Latino Christmas using the rhythms of our culture, which are Bomba and Plena,” he told TalkTeaV. “In this case, Plena.” The orchestra’s sound is built on tight arrangements, layered percussion, and the classic salsa style that has defined their work for more than two decades.
