A spring bike ride along the Bronx River Greenway is set to bring neighbors together on Saturday, April 4, as the Bronx River Alliance hosts a free community cycling event from Shoelace Park to Concrete Plant Park. Riders will meet at 10:30 a.m. at the Shoelace Park Boat Launch on East 219th Street, with the group rolling out at 11:00 a.m. The ride will cover about six miles at a comfortable pace of around seven miles per hour and is expected to finish around 1:00 p.m.

Organizers say the event is designed to be a relaxed outdoor activity that welcomes families, casual riders, and anyone interested in seeing the Bronx River corridor from the seat of a bicycle. The route follows the Bronx River Greenway, a growing network of paths that connects neighborhoods and parks along the river.

The Bronx River Alliance, a nonprofit that works to protect and restore the Bronx River, is coordinating the ride. Community outings like this one often serve two purposes. They offer a chance for residents to enjoy local green space while also helping people become more familiar with the river and the parks that surround it.

The ride begins at Shoelace Park in the north Bronx and travels south toward Concrete Plant Park, one of the borough’s most recognizable waterfront spaces. The park sits along the river in Hunts Point and is known for its walking paths, public art, and views of the water.

Participation is free, but riders must bring their own bicycle and helmet. Organizers note that the ride takes place at a casual pace, making it suitable for recreational cyclists and families. As with most group rides, participants join at their own risk.

Those interested in joining the ride are encouraged to register through the event page hosted by NYC Parks. Questions about the event can be directed to Andrew Villalobos of the Bronx River Alliance at andrew.villalobos@bronxriver.org or by phone at 718-542-4124.

For Bronx residents looking to spend a spring morning outdoors, the ride offers a simple way to connect with neighbors while enjoying one of the borough’s most important natural spaces.
