The Bronx is set to become the epicenter of psychological thrills this month as The Bronx County Historical Society hosts two major events focused on the art of the scare.
Award-winning author Vincent Tirado will lead the festivities starting Friday, March 20, 2026, at 6:30 PM with an exclusive book talk at the Edgar Allan Poe Cottage. Located at 2640 Grand Concourse, this historic site provides the backdrop for Tirado to introduce their new adult gothic horror novel, You Should Have Been Nicer to My Mom.
The momentum continues the next day, Saturday, March 21, with a full schedule titled A Day of Women in Horror. This program is part of the ongoing George A. Romero: Stay Scared! retrospective.

From Parkchester basements to museum walls, The Bronx celebrates the imagination that turned a local dreamer into the father of modern horror.

Activities begin at 3:00 PM with a free curator tour at the Museum of Bronx History on Bainbridge Avenue. Later that evening, the action shifts to the Bronx Music Hall at 438 East 163rd Street. Starting at 6:00 PM, Tirado returns for a second book talk, followed by a 7:00 PM panel discussion featuring industry voices like Tina Romero, Xero Gravity, and Gigi Saúl Guerrero.
Tirado, a Bronx native and Pura Belpré Award winner, brings a unique local perspective to these events. Their new book tells the story of the wealthy Abreu family, who find themselves trapped in a house during a storm following the death of their patriarch. A cryptic message in the will claims one family member is actually a demon.
As the night progresses, the characters deal with more than just ghosts. They face a ticking clock and a series of violent accusations that threaten to tear the family apart.
The weekend concludes on Saturday night with an 8:00 PM screening of the 2025 film Queens of the Dead. Directed by Tina Romero, the movie anchors a celebration of how women are currently shaping the horror genre. While most of the weekend events are free to the public, tickets for the film screening are 12 dollars.
The program moves from Poe’s final Bronx residence to the Bronx Music Hall stage, linking the borough’s literary history with contemporary horror writing and film across one focused weekend of events.
