Good news for fans who have been wanting to see Will Poulter step into bigger leading roles. Apple TV has ordered Beat the Reaper, a new dramedy series starring and executive produced by Poulter. The project is based on the novel by Josh Bazell and is being adapted for television by Sam Catlin. The series is currently in development for Apple TV, with Apple Studios and New Regency producing.

Poulter plays Dr. Peter Brown, a medical intern stuck working a brutal overnight shift at what is described as Boston’s worst hospital. He is good at his job and serious about medicine, but his past is anything but clean. When a patient recognizes him from an earlier life he has tried to bury, everything starts to unravel. Over the next eight hours, Brown must stay alive while dodging mob hitmen, government agents, reckless surgeons, and people who want him dead.

Catlin serves as showrunner and executive producer. His past work includes Breaking Bad, Preacher, and Sugar. He executive produces under his overall deal with Apple TV, alongside producers from New Regency.

Poulter’s rise has been a steady one, and fans have followed him through some surprising turns. Many first met him as the awkward and frustrating Eustace in The Chronicles of Narnia.

Since then, he has quietly built a reputation for taking on tougher, more emotional roles. His performances in Dopesick and The Bear earned strong praise for how much he could convey without saying much at all. More recently, Warfare showed his ability to handle intense material without losing the human side of a character.

For fans who have been waiting to see him lead, Beat the Reaper feels like a real opportunity to show why this moment has been so anticipated.
