A house explosion in Oxford sets off a gripping mystery in the new Apple TV+ thriller Down Cemetery Road. The eight-part series premieres globally on Wednesday, October 29, with the first two episodes dropping at 3 a.m. ET.
Based on Mick Herron’s novel from his “Zoë Boehm” book series, the story follows neighbor Sarah Trafford (Ruth Wilson), who becomes determined to uncover what happened to a girl who vanished in the aftermath of the explosion. She teams up with private investigator Zoë Boehm (Emma Thompson), and the two are soon pulled into a conspiracy that blurs the line between the living and the dead.
Thompson, who also serves as executive producer, is joined by a strong supporting cast that includes Adeel Akhtar, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Tom Goodman-Hill, Darren Boyd, Tom Riley, Adam Godley, Sinead Matthews, Ken Nwosu, Fehinti Balogun, and Aiysha Hart. The series is written by Morwenna Banks, whose credits include Slow Horses, another Herron adaptation that has become one of Apple TV+’s longest-running dramas. Natalie Bailey (Bay of Fires) directs.

Herron’s work has built a loyal audience through the success of the novels and the TV series Slow Horses, which was recently renewed for a seventh season. While that series focuses on the espionage world, Down Cemetery Road shifts to a more intimate but equally tense setting: an English suburb where hidden pasts refuse to stay buried. The new show adds another chapter to Apple TV+’s investment in literary thrillers with top-tier talent attached.
Thompson and Wilson’s pairing is likely to draw attention from fans of both British drama and international streaming hits. With its mix of suburban suspense and a cast stacked with award winners, Down Cemetery Road aims to deliver a mystery that feels both familiar and unsettling.
