Calvin’s barbershop is opening its doors to a new generation, and Jermaine Fowler is the one walking in with something to prove. Prime Video’s Barbershop series puts Fowler at the center of the familiar Chicago shop, where a new group of barbers will inherit both the chairs and the conversations that helped define the film franchise.
Fowler plays Travis “Trav” Walker, who returns to Chicago hoping to honor his grandfather’s legacy at Calvin’s. The shop and the city have changed, leaving Trav to figure out where he fits among a new crew of barbers and longtime customers.
The role gives Fowler another workplace comedy rooted in Chicago. Earlier in his career, he starred opposite Judd Hirsch as Franco Wicks in CBS’ Superior Donuts. More recently, Fowler appeared with Tracy Morgan in Crutch and joined Season 5 of Only Murders in the Building as Randall Winston, the Arconia’s new head doorman. He also serves as an executive producer on Barbershop.
It’s a brief scene in Balance of Terror involving Uhura and Captain Kirk. But to this day, it's still one of my favorite moments in all of Star Trek: The Original Series. Star Trek Balance of Terror: A Favorite Moment Explained

The ensemble includes Brett Gray (Star Trek: Prodigy), Punkie Johnson (Saturday Night Live), Roy Wood Jr. (The Daily Show), E.J. Bonilla (The Old Man), Bresha Webb (Run the World), Tiana Okoye (Twisted Metal) and Langston Kerman (Bust Down). Bokeem Woodbine, who earned a 2016 Emmy nomination for playing Mike Milligan in Fargo, is also cast in the comedy series.
The guest lineup adds Zack Fox (Abbott Elementary), Ego Nwodim (Saturday Night Live), Diallo Riddle (South Side), Ziwe (Ziwe), Tituss Burgess (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Comedian CP (How to Die Alone), Devon Walker (Saturday Night Live) and Belmont Cameli (Saved by the Bell).
There is also a direct link back to the beginning of the franchise behind the camera. Marshall Todd, one of the screenwriters of the 2002 Barbershop film, writes the Prime Video series and serves as co-showrunner and executive producer alongside Max Searle.
Oz Rodriguez directs and executive produces, while Fowler is among the other executive producers. Todd was credited alongside Mark Brown and Don D. Scott on the original film’s screenplay.
All eight episodes of Barbershop will premiere Feb. 10, 2027, on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories. Amazon MGM Studios produces the series with MGM Television, Hartbeat, Busy B Entertainment, Prominent Productions, and State Street Pictures.
