What to Know
  • Lucy Hale will star in and executive produce Roku's Scarlett Holmes.
  • The limited series is scheduled to debut on The Roku Channel in 2027.

Lucy Hale is heading into the world of Sherlock Holmes, but her mysteries will involve dating, relationships, and romantic complications rather than traditional crimes.

Roku announced Tuesday that Hale will star in and executive produce Scarlett Holmes, a new Roku Original limited series scheduled to debut on The Roku Channel in 2027. Jaggi Entertainment is producing the series.

Hale plays Scarlett Holmes, a modern descendant of Sherlock Holmes who has inherited her family's powers of observation. Instead of using those skills to investigate crimes, Scarlett works through mysteries involving love, dating, and relationships.

She is joined by Jane Watson, her sidekick, as the pair helps clients sort through mixed signals, secret crushes, and other romantic problems.

Scarlett has more difficulty applying those skills to her own life. The story introduces Ollie Moriarity, a podcast producer who catches Scarlett's attention while secretly planning an exposé about her methods. Roku says each episode will draw inspiration from a romantic comedy.

Hale said her interest in the genre helped draw her to the project.

"I am a true diehard fan of romantic comedies, and 'Scarlett Holmes' has that special something that made me fall in love with the genre in the first place," Hale said. "And I love that it brings mystery into the rom-com world in a way that feels really fresh and fun."

She described Scarlett as "smart, curious, a little complicated" and someone looking for love.

Paris Herbert-Taylor and Katie Wilbert are writing the limited series. Sophie Tilson and Steve Jaggi serve as executive producers for Jaggi Entertainment alongside Hale.

Morgan Pichinson and Sabrina Lyall are overseeing the project for Roku. Hale is known for her role as Aria Montgomery in Pretty Little Liars, and her more recent screen work includes F*** Marry Kill, Which Brings Me to You, Puppy Love, The Hating Game, and AMC's Ragdoll.

She has also wrapped the upcoming thriller 'Legacy' and romantic comedy 'Princess.' Hale is attached to star in, and executive produce, 'Dead Letters,' a mystery drama currently in development at Netflix.

Roku has not announced additional casting for Jane Watson or Ollie Moriarity, or a specific 2027 premiere date for Scarlett Holmes.
