MUBI Adds Young Kubrick, Bottoms and Nickel Boys This August

Exclusive premieres 'A Poet' and Ancestral Visions of the Future arrive Aug. 7 and 14.
MUBI will add more than a dozen films throughout August, bringing early Stanley Kubrick classics, Rachel Sennott comedies and the streaming premieres of two international films to its global platform. The schedule begins Aug. 1, with additional releases arriving through Aug. 27 as the service closes out summer with collections centered on school, sound and distinctive filmmakers.
Among the first arrivals are Kubrick’s Killer’s Kiss, The Killing and Paths of Glory. The three films form the “Paths of Glory: Young Kubrick” collection, which looks back at the director’s work before such later landmarks as 2001: A Space Odyssey and The Shining made him one of cinema’s most recognizable filmmakers.
MUBI is also pairing writer-director Emma Seligman with actor Rachel Sennott in a two-film collection. Bottoms arrives Aug. 1, followed by Shiva Baby on Aug. 8. Both comedies put an uncomfortable and often sharp spin on young adulthood, sexuality and the pressure to fit into social roles.
The films will also appear in 'Hello World?,' a back-to-school selection about the excitement and uncertainty that come with new beginnings. Other titles already streaming in that collection include Actual People, Bird, Gasoline Rainbow, My First Film, Tendaberry and Toxic.

Two exclusive streaming premieres anchor the month’s international releases. Colombian filmmaker Simón Mesa Soto’s A Poet arrives Aug. 7 after winning a prize at the Cannes Film Festival. The tragicomedy follows a struggling poet whose ambitions become tied to an unlikely student-teacher relationship.
Ancestral Visions of the Future, directed by Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese, follows on Aug. 14. Drawing from African storytelling traditions, the film considers home, memory and life in the diaspora through fragmented images and a lyrical visual style.
MUBI will also gather the work of filmmaker RaMell Ross across documentary, short film and fiction. Easter Snap and the Oscar-nominated ‘Hale County This Morning, This Evening’ arrive Aug. 1. Nickel Boys, Ross’ adaptation of Colson Whitehead’s novel, joins the platform Aug. 27.

Sound takes center stage in “Tuning In: Sonic Journeys,” a global collection built around music, scores and sound design. Solo Sunny and Viktor join the selection Aug. 1 alongside films already available, including 24 Hour Party People, In Pursuit of Silence, Shy People and Mitski: The Land.
The remaining August schedule includes Club Zero on Aug. 1, Hagazussa: A Heathen’s Curse on Aug. 15 and The Loneliness of Lizards on Aug. 21. MUBI did not announce specific release times for the films.
