After more than 30 years of friendship, Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are still having fun with the question everyone keeps asking: Could they really be brothers?
The longtime friends and co-stars celebrated the world premiere of their new Apple TV comedy, “Brothers,” on Thursday, September 17, at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. The series begins streaming Wednesday, September 23.
McConaughey and Harrelson, who also serve as executive producers, were joined on the red carpet by Natalie Martinez, Brittany Ishibashi, Nolan Almeida, Ella Grace Helton, Noah Carganilla, Highdee Kuan, Oona Yaffe and Holland Taylor.
The premiere also became a family night. McConaughey attended with Camila Alves McConaughey and their children, Levi and Vida. His mother, Kay McConaughey, joined the cast for photos. Harrelson attended with his wife, Laura Louie.

The comedy turns the actors’ real-life friendship and long-running family rumor into its central story. McConaughey and Harrelson play heightened versions of themselves whose lives are disrupted by the possibility that they share the same father.
In the series, Woody takes his family to Matthew’s Austin ranch after his daughter’s engagement falls apart. The visit grows more complicated when Matthew’s mother, Ma Mac, played by Taylor, reveals a secret that sends Woody searching for answers. Meanwhile, Matthew considers a run for governor of Texas.
The premise borrows from a real story involving Kay McConaughey, who once told Harrelson that she knew his father, Charles Harrelson. During a recent TODAY interview, Harrelson joked that the similarities between the two men have made him “100% certain” they are related.

The pair have played brothers before. In the 1999 comedy ‘Edtv,' McConaughey played video store clerk Ed Pekurny, while Harrelson played his brother, Ray. They later shared the screen as detectives Rust Cohle and Marty Hart in the first season of HBO’s “True Detective.”
‘Brothers’ reunites them on television 12 years after that acclaimed crime drama. The eight-episode season opens with two episodes, followed by a new installment each Wednesday through November 4.
