The New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and several Bronx-based organizations have announced upcoming youth employment deadlines, civic meetings, and cultural events scheduled throughout February in the Bronx and Manhattan.

The initiatives include applications for the 2026 Summer Youth Employment Program, a borough-wide community coalition meeting at Lehman College, professional panels in Lower Manhattan, and local workshops and history programs in the South Bronx.

The Department of Cultural Affairs is currently accepting applications for the 2026 Summer Youth Employment Program, known as SYEP. The program connects young people ages 14 to 24 with paid summer work and career exploration opportunities at cultural institutions and other worksites across the five boroughs. The deadline for youth to apply is February 27, 2026.

On February 28, 2026, the Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition will hold its annual meeting titled Our Bronx: For Us, By Us at the Lehman College Faculty Dining Hall, located inside the Music Building at 250 Bedford Park Blvd W. The program is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with attendees asked to arrive early for check-in. Identification is required for entry. Dinner and Spanish interpretation will be provided.

According to NWBCCC, the meeting will review the organization’s 2025 activities and outline priorities for 2026. The group has cited a development agreement tied to the Kingsbridge Armory, the addition of three buildings to the Bronx Community Land Trust pipeline, and legislative efforts related to labor standards and tenant protections among its recent initiatives.

The organization also plans to introduce a new name and logo reflecting its merger with the Bronx Cooperative Development Initiative and its expansion across the borough.

Several cultural and professional programs are also scheduled this month. The Bronx Documentary Center will host photographer Eutropio Rodríguez on February 18 at 6:30 p.m. at 614 Courtlandt Ave. Rodríguez will discuss his five-year documentation of the Xenerais da Ulla, a Carnival tradition from Galicia, Spain that features horseback parades and traditional costumes.

On February 25, the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) will hold a hybrid Black History Month panel titled Rooted in History, Rising in Leadership.

The event runs from 1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. at the David N. Dinkins Manhattan Municipal Building, 1 Centre Street, and online via Microsoft Teams. According to DCAS, the discussion will feature Black professionals in city government reflecting on leadership and public service.

One of the courses, titled Oar Making in the Bronx, runs from February 27 through March 1. Instructor Graham McKay, executive director of Lowell’s Boat Shop in Amesbury, Massachusetts, will lead participants in constructing wooden oars using traditional hand tools. The workshop takes place at Rocking the Boat’s South Bronx boat shop and is open to novices. Tuition is 650 dollars.

In addition, The Bronx County Historical Society will hold a Scanning Party on February 17 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the NYPL Mott Haven Library, 321 E. 141st Street. As part of the South Bronx History Keepers program, staff will assist residents in digitizing family photographs and historical documents at no cost.
