Two Latiné productions will soon take the stage in The Bronx.

A horizontal graphic divided into three sections. The left section features a colorful, illustrated poster for "Champagne Tears: The Rich Also Cry," showing several expressive characters in a vibrant, stylized art style. The middle section displays two theatrical masks: one smiling and orange, the other frowning and purple, with the text "Broadway Sin Barreras" and "Broadway Sin Vergüenza." The right section features a poster for "Querida: Amor Sin Final," depicting a man in a white tuxedo crying on the floor next to a box of tissues, set against a glowing pink background with neon text.

Broadway Sin Barreras and Broadway Sin Vergüenza will present workshop performances of Champagne Tears: The Rich Also Cry and Querida: Amor Sin Final on Wednesday, February 25, at 6:30 PM at Pregones/PRTT, 571 Walton Avenue in the Bronx. Admission is free to the public with a suggested donation of $10 to support the local arts initiative. Together, the two productions run approximately two hours.

Champagne Tears: The Rich Also Cry is an original musical telenovela parody written and directed by Vanessa Verduga. Organizers describe the story as follows: an orphaned young woman who arrives at the gates of wealth carrying a mysterious locket. Her arrival sets off a series of secrets and family conflicts, told through heightened melodrama and musical theater.

The second production, Querida: Amor Sin Final, is a Juan Gabriel jukebox musical, also written and directed by Verduga, with choreography by Juliana Padilla and built around songs made famous by Juan Gabriel. The show centers on longing, devotion, and resilience within a telenovela-style narrative.

Both productions share a creative team that includes Verduga as writer and director, Padilla as choreographer, Abril Lopez as stage manager, and Eric Smrcka as accompanist.

Broadway Sin Barreras focuses on bilingual and Spanish-forward musical theater rooted in training and craft. Broadway Sin Vergüenza leans into satire and cabaret-style performance.

Broadway Sin Barreras also recently announced on its official social media channels that it has received 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. In a public statement, the organization said the milestone affirms its mission as a bilingual, community-centered home for musical theater.

She has voluminous, curly auburn hair and is wearing red lipstick, looking directly at the camera with a confident smile. To her right, the text reads in a bold serif font: "We’re building our own stage." The background is dark and minimalist, emphasizing the subject and the message.

In a statement to TalkTeaV, Verduga described the organization’s approach to audience engagement. “In our telenovelas, performers treat the audience as confidants, neighbors, and witnesses inside the world of the story,” she said. “As we expand into full-length productions, that relationship will remain central. Art becomes more powerful when people recognize themselves inside it.”

The workshops will be held at the historic Pregones/PRTT, a bilingual theater company with facilities in The Bronx and Manhattan. Founded in 1979 as a Bronx resident company, Pregones creates original works inspired by Caribbean and Latin American ensemble traditions. After merging with the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater in 2014, the organization continues to present bilingual productions and support Latino artists.
