Being Eddie, a new feature documentary directed by two-time Oscar winner Angus Wall, premieres November 12, 2025, on Netflix. The film offers an intimate look at the extraordinary career of Eddie Murphy, a performer whose mix of raw talent, discipline, and quick wit has kept him at the top of comedy and film for nearly half a century.
From Saturday Night Live to Beverly Hills Cop, Coming to America, and Shrek, Murphy has shaped American entertainment in ways few others have. The documentary assembles an all-star lineup, including Dave Chappelle, Jamie Foxx, Tracee Ellis Ross, Jerry Seinfeld, and Reginald Hudlin, who reflect on Murphy’s influence and enduring legacy. It’s the first time audiences will see Murphy open the doors to his home and speak candidly about the forces that have guided his career.

Director Angus Wall brings his award-winning eye to the project, capturing the rhythm and humor that defined Murphy’s rise from a teen comic in New York to an international superstar. Producers John Davis, John Fox, Charisse Hewitt-Webster, Terry Leonard, and Kent Kubena help steer a story that spans from stand-up stages to Hollywood sets.
The cast list reads like a who’s who of modern comedy. Alongside Chappelle and Foxx, the film features appearances from Arsenio Hall, Chris Rock, Kenan Thompson, Tracy Morgan, Ruth Carter, Kevin Hart, Michael Che, Pete Davidson, Jerry Bruckheimer, and John Landis, each sharing how Murphy’s originality opened doors for a new generation of artists.
After decades of shaping pop culture, from his unforgettable characters on SNL to his beloved roles in family favorites, Murphy remains a rare blend of creativity and introspection. Being Eddie aims to show the humor behind the legend and the human being behind the fame.
