Netflix’s A Man on the Inside begins production in San Francisco
Eight guest stars join Ted Danson for its third and final season.
Ted Danson’s next assignment comes with a farewell. Netflix announced Sept. 23 that “A Man on the Inside” has begun production on its third and final season in San Francisco, where Charles Nieuwendyk’s latest case puts him among the city’s wealthy social circles.
Eight new guest stars are joining the comedy, with Bernadette Peters (The Good Fight) playing Coco Van Beck, a prominent society figure who hires Charles to investigate efforts to sabotage her philanthropic work.
Coco’s circle gives Charles plenty of people to get acquainted with. Annette O’Toole (Virgin River) plays Kitt, one of Coco’s oldest friends and a familiar presence in San Francisco high society.
Christopher McDonald (Happy Gilmore) joins as Leland, a vineyard owner, playboy, and Coco’s third ex-husband. Diedrich Bader (American Housewife) plays Mark Delaurio, an influential real estate developer whose history with Coco includes repeated clashes.
Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) plays Jack Spencer, a Coco employee with a particular interest in Charles’s investigation. Rachel Dratch (Saturday Night Live) appears as Maud, Coco’s overworked assistant, who manages three phones while getting just three hours of sleep a night.
There is family business to contend with, too. Stephen Root (Barry) plays Dave, Charles’s estranged brother, whose arrival comes with unresolved grievances.
Jessica St. Clair (The Studio) joins as Chloe, a friend who helps Emily, played by Mary Elizabeth Ellis, work through a new stage of parenthood.

Alongside Danson and Ellis, returning cast members include Lilah Richcreek Estrada, Stephanie Beatriz, Eugene Cordero, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Sally Struthers and Mary Steenburgen.
Creator and executive producer Michael Schur connected the final season to the decision that first changed Charles’s retirement.
“This series began with a retiree taking a chance at a new life. By answering a help wanted ad and venturing out into the world, Charles Nieuwendyk made his world bigger and proved that life only slows down if you let it. We are thrilled to be able to conclude his journey with one final chapter, as embodied by the great Ted Danson, who I am legally required to refer to as a National Treasure.”
Produced by Universal Television, the series follows a retiree who answers a private investigator’s ad and becomes an undercover participant in an investigation. It is based on “The Mole Agent,” which received an Oscar nomination for best documentary feature in 2021.
Season 2 premiered Nov. 20, 2025. According to Netflix, the series recorded more than 51 million views across both seasons through the first half of 2026.
