I may not be a hardcore horror fan, but I have seen enough slasher movies to know that taking down a seemingly supernatural killer is not easy.
“There are certain rules that one must abide by in order to successfully survive a horror movie,” Randy famously explained in Scream.
His rules included avoiding sex, drugs, and the dangerous promise of “I’ll be right back.” Those may help someone stay out of trouble, but what happens when the slow-walking killer is already chasing you?
Patricia, played by Kate O’Flynn, offered three better rules in one of the funniest and most satisfying episodes of Widow’s Bay.

Rule Number One: Keep Running
Do not stop to explain yourself to people who already think you are lying.
Patricia makes that mistake when she seeks help from the women who never believed her story about surviving the original Boogeyman killings. When Kris dismisses her again, Patricia tasers her and gets back to the more important matter of staying alive.
Rule Number Two: Use Whatever You Can Find
Patricia does not wait for someone else to save her. She uses a taser, gasoline, and finally a shotgun against the Boogeyman.
It is the kind of desperate plan that could easily fall apart in a horror movie.
This time, it works. Patricia gets the weapon and shoots until the killer stops moving.

Rule Number Three: Make Sure He Is Really Dead
This is where Widow’s Bay gives generations of horror fans what they have yelled at the screen for years.
Patricia keeps the shotgun aimed at the Boogeyman’s body while he is transported in the ambulance, examined, and taken to the crematorium. The joke continues across several scenes, with Patricia refusing to relax until she personally sees what remains of him.
O’Flynn told Decider that the montage of Patricia guarding the body “was so great.” She also described the victory as Patricia finally getting herself together when it mattered.
That is why the scene works. It is not only funny. Patricia has spent years being doubted, overlooked, and treated as a joke. In “Your Baggage,” O’Flynn turns her into the hero of her own slasher story.
Patricia does not assume the nightmare is over. She watches it burn, giving horror fans one of the funniest final girl scenes in recent years.
