Shudder's August Must-Watch List: New Movies and Resurrected Cult-Classic Titles

Shudder is gearing up for an exciting August with a fresh lineup of horror movies and shows! In April their Halfway To Halloween festivities began with screenings of films such as the well-received debut of Late Night With The Devil, directed by Colin and Cameron Cairnes and starring David Dastmalchian, which was initially released theatrically but later became available to stream in April as part of the yearly holiday that celebrates the halfway point to Halloween.
Now, as the days continue to count down to All Hallows' Eve, here’s what horror fans can look forward to on Shudder in August! One of these must-see horror movies comes from a talented family of filmmakers known for their love of creating thrilling, spooky films.
The latest film from the Adams Family, the creators of Hellbender, is called Hell Hole. It tells the story of an American fracking team that discovers a French soldier from the Napoleonic era who is frozen in time and inhabited by a parasitic monster.
The cast includes Toby Poser, John Adams, Max Portman, and Anders Hove. Hell Hole will be streaming on Shudder on Friday, August 23, 2024.
Based on the novel KKN di Desa Penari by SimpleMan, Dancing Village: The Curse Begins is an Indonesian supernatural horror film.
Mila, instructed by a shaman to return a mystical bracelet to the remote "Dancing Village" in Java, faces eerie events as she awaits the return of the village guardian. Joined by her cousin and friends, Mila encounters a mythical being and must join a ritual to prevent a curse from threatening the village.
Produced by MD Pictures, the film stars Aulia Sarah, Maudy Effrosina, and Jourdy Pranata. It is a prequel to the 2022 movie KKN di Desa Penari and was released in Indonesian cinemas on April 11, 2024. Now, it will stream on Shudder starting August 16.
Divinity, a mind-bending, trippy film written and directed by Eddie Alcazar, follows two brothers who abduct a mogul during his quest for immortality. Meanwhile, a seductive woman who rebels against society helps them embark on a journey of self-discovery.
Produced by Steven Soderbergh, Divinity stars Bella Thorne (Scream TV Series) as Ziva, a cult leader; Stephen Dorff (Blade) as Jaxxon Pierce, the son who profits from his scientist father's dream; and Scott Bakula (Quantum Leap) as Scientist Sterling Pierce, a man whose quest for immortality becomes a nightmare.
Streaming on Shudder in the early part of the month, premiering Tuesday, August 2.
