A new anime series centered on an unlikely hero is heading to late-night TV. Rooster Fighter premieres Saturday, March 14, at midnight ET and PT on Adult Swim as part of the Toonami lineup. The 12-episode action comedy will air weekly in English and is based on the manga by Shu Sakuratani.
The series follows Keiji, a rooster who steps in as humanity’s defender when giant creatures begin attacking towns. According to the show’s description, Keiji faces enemies many times his size while traveling from place to place, meeting new people and confronting new threats along the way. Adult Swim will air one episode every Saturday at midnight, making it part of the network’s regular late-night anime schedule.
Rooster Fighter is adapted from Sakuratani’s Japanese web manga, which has been published on HERO’S INC’s website since December 2020. The anime is produced for Adult Swim by VIZ and HERO’S INC, in association with SOLA Entertainment and SANZIGEN.
The voice cast includes Patrick Seitz as Keiji, Alejandro Saab as Yuji, Erin Yvette as Sara, Robbie Daymond as Keisuke, Zeno Robinson as Hikari, Kirk Thornton as Keizan, Luci Christian as Elizabeth, Roger Rose as Morio, Anjali Kunapaneni as Kugone, and Kimoy Lee as Piyoko.
“Rooster Fighter is the kind of show that immediately answers the question ‘yes, but what if a rooster did it?’ and then never looks back,” said Michael Ouweleen, president, Adult Swim. “It’s ridiculous, wildly sincere, and packed with talon-powered action.”
