Peacock Orders Assassins, With Scarlett Johansson Among Its Producers

Scarlett Johansson, Rhett Bachner, Brien Meagher executive producers of of Peacock’s Assassin Series
Peacock is launching a new competition series, Assassins, with Scarlett Johansson, Brien Meagher, and Rhett Bachner as executive producers. The premise is simple: every contestant is both hunter and hunted. B17 Entertainment, part of Sony Pictures Television, is handling production.
Each player gets a target as soon as they arrive and must eliminate that person before the season ends, while avoiding elimination themselves. Players will need to think ahead, deceive their opponents, and work through changing alliances to stay in the game. Only one will win.
The setup comes from a live-action game that has been part of student life for decades. Assassin, sometimes called Gotcha, involves players secretly trying to eliminate assigned targets using mock weapons. High school students play a version called Senior Assassin, using water guns. If you’ve played it before, you’ll recognize the challenge: going after your target while watching your own back.
Meagher and Bachner founded B17 Entertainment, the Los Angeles-based company behind Netflix’s Blue Ribbon Baking Championship and ABC’s The Final Straw. Before starting B17, Meagher worked as a co-executive producer on Shark Tank, while Bachner was an executive producer on IFC’s The Henry Rollins Show.
No further details about the game’s rules, premiere date, or contestants have been announced.
