A Lunar New Year celebration led by the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company is coming to the Bronx this winter. The event, titled Lunar New Year Celebration: Year of the Horse, will take place on Sunday, February 8, at 3:00 pm at the Main Theater inside the Hostos Center for the Arts & Culture. The performance invites local audiences to welcome the Year of the Horse through dance, live music, and a shared community experience.
The afternoon program is designed to be accessible and welcoming for all ages. It centers on Chinese dance traditions while presenting new works created for this celebration.
According to event details, the performance draws inspiration from the Horse, a symbol often associated with speed, strength, passion, and freedom in Lunar New Year traditions. Live music will accompany the dancers, adding energy and rhythm to the performance.

The Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company is known for blending traditional and contemporary influences in ways that speak to both cultural heritage and modern audiences.
While the company performs on stages across the country and internationally, this appearance places their work directly in the Bronx, offering residents a chance to experience a major dance company in a neighborhood setting. Events like this also highlight Hostos Center’s ongoing role as a home for global culture within the borough.
This Lunar New Year program is described as festive and joyful, with movement and music serving as the main way stories and ideas are shared. Rather than focusing on one storyline, the performance brings together multiple dances that reflect celebration, motion, and connection. It is meant to be enjoyed whether viewers are deeply familiar with Lunar New Year traditions or discovering them for the first time.
For families, community members, and anyone looking for a cultural outing, the performance offers an opportunity to spend a Sunday afternoon together while marking the start of a new lunar year. With its mix of dance, music, and symbolism, the event continues Hostos Center’s tradition of presenting performances that reflect the diversity and creativity of the Bronx.
