An improv class collides with covert chaos in this new action-comedy on Prime Video, featuring a killer cast.
What do you get when you mix London's criminal underworld with an improv teacher and two eager students? Deep Cover is the latest genre-flipping comedy from director Tom Kingsley (Ghosts), and its newly released trailer promises fast-paced action with a dry British twist. Streaming globally on Prime Video starting June 12, the film stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom, and Nick Mohammed in roles that lean hard into absurdity—and somehow, it works.
In the film, Howard plays Kat, a struggling improv instructor whose life takes an unexpected turn when she's approached by an undercover cop, played by Sean Bean. The mission? Impersonate a dangerous gang to bring down a crime syndicate. Naturally, she ropes in two of her most clueless students (Bloom and Mohammed), and from there, the chaos escalates. If the plot sounds completely unhinged, that's the point.

Behind the scenes, Deep Cover brings together a creative team with serious range. The script comes from Derek Connolly and Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World) alongside British comedy duo Ben Ashenden and Alexander Owen (The Pin). Kingsley's direction keeps things tight and fast without sacrificing wit—a balance he’s known for.
And while the central trio offers plenty of comedic momentum, the supporting cast is where this really levels up: Paddy Considine (House of the Dragon), Sonoya Mizuno (Devs, Ex Machina), Ian McShane (Deadwood), and Sean Bean (Game of Thrones) all add a touch of cool and menace.

The movie was filmed at London North Studios, the same place that brought us The Diplomat and A Spy Among Friends. And while the setup sounds simple, the trailer teases layered performances—especially from Howard, Bloom, and Mohammed, who all manage to channel misfit vibes and action chops at the same time.
The result looks like a fun genre mashup: part sketch comedy, part heist movie, and part send-up of every undercover cop film you’ve ever seen. It could be a mess, but with this cast and creative team, it might just work.
