Families in the Bronx can look forward to a weekend of blockbuster fun as NYC Parks and the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment present two free outdoor movie screenings, kicking off the city's popular Movies Under the Stars series.

On Friday, May 29, the Asphalt Field in Allerton Playground will transform into an open-air cinema for the premiere of Freakier Friday. The film, a fresh sequel to the beloved body-swap comedy, picks up 22 years after Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis, Halloween) and Anna (Lindsay Lohan, Mean Girls) endured their unforgettable identity swap.

Now, Anna faces the ups and downs of parenting a daughter and welcoming a soon-to-be stepdaughter, while Tess and Anna brace themselves for another round of family chaos. The screening starts at dusk, with guests encouraged to bring blankets and settle in under the stars.

On Saturday, May 30, families are invited to Matthews Muliner Playground to watch the animated hit Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. Featuring Antonio Banderas (The Mask of Zorro) as the swashbuckling feline, the movie follows Puss on a high-stakes adventure to reclaim his nine lives. This screening, like all events in the series, is free and open to all ages, making it a perfect way to enjoy a summer night in The Bronx.

Both showings start at 8:30 p.m. and run until late evening. Attendees should note that glass bottles and alcoholic beverages are not permitted. In case of heavy rain or severe weather, screenings may be canceled, with updates available on the NYC Parks website.
