MGM+'s True-Crime Docuseries Psycho: The Lost Tapes of Ed Gein, Premiering September

MGM+ is shedding light on the dark and twisted story behind one of the most notorious criminals in history with its new true-crime docuseries Psycho: The Lost Tapes of Ed Gein. Directed and executive produced by James Buddy Day, known for his work on horror projects such as Blumhouse’s Compendium of Horror and Fall River, this four-episode series is set to premiere on MGM+ on September 17, 2023.

The series delves into the life and crimes of Ed Gein, the infamous grave robber and serial killer who became the inspiration for iconic films like Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and The Silence of the Lambs.

The docuseries follows the eerie true narrative of this notorious grave robber and serial killer, known by aliases like The Plainfield Ghoul and The Mad Butcher.

Filmmakers, scholars, and journalists have long attempted to decipher the mind of Ed Gein, whose unsettling actions left an indelible mark. Through unprecedented recordings and disclosures, audiences will be transported to 1950s Middle America, immersing themselves in Gein’s twisted psyche.

The series chronicles his upbringing, particularly his disturbing connection with his mother, his early forays into grave robbing, the lead-up to his apprehension, and the spine-chilling revelations emerging from the tapes.

Executively produced by Jill Latiano Howerton and Josh Kunau of Roots Productions, the series' global distribution will be handled by Amazon & MGM Studios Distribution.
